Description
Fiano is a white grape variety that can rightly be called Grand Seigneur among Italian grape varieties, as it is very old and also native to Italy. Fiano are aromatic, spicy white wines with good aging potential.
Today it is believed that Fiano is one of the Italian classics and has been growing in the Apennine Peninsula for a long time. Its roots go back to antiquity, when the Fiano grapevine was cultivated by the Greeks, but at the latest by the Romans.
Some, including famous journalist and wine critic Jancis Robinson, believe that Fiano is behind the famous ancient wine, Vinum Apianum. They believe this because the translated name means “beeswine” and the grapes and flowers of the Fiano vine attract bees with a strikingly powerful effect.
Fiano is a grape variety with rather low yields and few musts, so it suffered badly during the mass madness of the 19th and 20th centuries and has been largely replaced by high-yielding varieties such as Trebbiano and Sangiovese. In the meantime, however, it has returned to the focus of vineyards and vineyards as they focus more and more on nature and uniqueness.

It has a small penta- or trilobate leaf, a medium-sized tuft with wings, medium-sized ellipsoidal berries, and a golden-yellow skin with amber tones. It has medium energy and prefers clay and calcareous soils. Usually the typical form of agriculture is the espalier or Apulian sapling.
