Description
Verdeca is an autochthonous white grape variety that is grown in Italy mainly in Puglia. Verdeca has a long tradition there and was once brought to Apulia by the ancient Greeks, where it can still be found today under the name Lagorhi, but is slowly disappearing. The variety is primarily used in Italy for the production of vermouth and, when properly aged, produces light and fruity white wines with an almond aroma. Since much more vermouth is now being drunk across Europe, the Verdeca is being cultivated a little more strongly again.
Our food recommendation:
The Verdeca is a lively companion to tasty casseroles in which fish and vegetables have been imaginatively combined. The Apulian white wine also tastes good with light salads, clear soups and white meat. For example, what do you think of a fine roulade made from lean turkey breast, filled with Serano ham, dried tomatoes, Swiss chard and fresh herbs? Serve with broccoli with almonds, tender carrot vegetables and orecchiette.
